Venables Oak Historic Archive

Venables’ long association with timber and joinery can be traced back to the mid nineteenth century when Henry Venables, the present directors’ great – great grandfather, founded Venables timber yard and sawmill in Staffordshire. The sawmill had its own railway halt so that timber could be distributed across Great Britain.

Since that time, the Venables family have provided timber and bespoke joinery together with expert knowledge and advice to many landmark and heritage buildings across the UK and abroad. These include the restoration of York Minster and Windsor Castle and the reconstruction of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, which utilised building methods discovered from archaeological research carried out at the site by the River Thames.
